The ceremony was hosted by U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Allan M. Pepin, the commander Joint Forces Headquarters- National Capitol Region (JTF-NCR) and Military District of Washington (MDW). The Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath Laying Ceremony are provided by the Joint Service Honor Guard which is a sub-unit of the JFH-NCR. The Joint Service Honor Guard is composed of personnel from the official honour guard units of each uniformed branch in the United States Armed Forces (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard). The honour guard units of each of the services is located in or near Washington D. C., and form the ad-hoc battalion sized unit to represent the entire armed forces at numerous ceremonies of state, mostly State visits to the United States and the Armed Forces Farewell. Twenty-one steps south. Face east 21 seconds. Face north 21 seconds. Twenty-one steps north. Face east 21 seconds. Face south 21 seconds. Repeat until relieved. Thus is the meticulous routine performed by the select few chosen for the honor of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located in Arlington National Cemetery, just outside of Washington, D.C. These Tomb Guard Sentinels, elite volunteer members of the U.S. Army's 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, watch the Tomb 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, rain or shine and have done so for almost 80 years. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was constructed in 1921, after Congress approved the burial of an unidentified U.S. soldier from World War I, with other Unknowns interred since. The Tomb has been guarded year-round continuously since 1937, when the first 24-hour guards were posted. Since April 1948, sentinels from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, also known as the "Old Guard," have been watching over the hallowed memorial. The above video shows a complete changing of the guard ceremony edited together from three different ceremonies all recorded on May 20, 2015. Soon the new sentinel leaves the Quarters and unlocks the bolt of his or her M-14 rifle to signal to the relief commander to start the ceremony. The relief commander walks out to the Tomb and salutes, then faces the spectators and asks them to stand and stay silent during the ceremony. The relief commander conducts a detailed white-glove inspection of the weapon, checking each part of the rifle once. Then, the relief commander and the relieving sentinel meet the retiring sentinel at the center of the matted path in front of the Tomb for the commencement of the changing of the guard ritual. Nine Soldiers from various units in the North Dakota National Guard trained on how to perform Military Funeral Honors (MFH) in the gym at the RJ Bohn Armory in Bismarck, January 7-9, 2021. The course was taught by Sgt. Collin Brumskill and Sgt. Kathryn Mclaughlin, the Northeast and Western coordinators for the MFH program, with assistance from two team leads for the program, Spc. Kelsie Carpenter and Spc. Sidney Schaff. MFH is a three-day course with many long hours of practicing movements until they are perfect. The course gives Soldiers training on how to conduct themselves while performing MFH and teaches them the necessary tasks, such as drill and ceremony, the two-Soldier fold, and the bugle playing of “Taps”. There are a limited number of Soldiers in the state who do MFH in a full-time capacity, so there is a need for Soldiers from multiple units to be trained to complete the program’s mission.

The Changing of the Guard ceremony at Ataturk's Tomb (Anitkabir) in Ankara, Turkey is quite impressive. Ataturk was the founder of modern Turkey.
