Inspired by minimalist warehouse interiors, OPH Architects’s Pilin Hongwittayakorn used a simple combination of a crisp white palette and light blockboard, an engineered plywood, throughout. A custom joinery piece doubles as a TV cabinet and shoe storage at the entrance, while matte white laminate unifies the entrance, kitchen, and floor-to-ceiling storage cabinets. In this episode, we visit a 645 square feet 3 Room DBSS located in Pasir Ris. The place has been overhauled from its existing 2 bedroom layout to one that is fully moulded into the homeowners’ lifestyle and daily routines. Check out what goes on behind the scenes and have a peek of the interior design process! Design Highlights: For this project we were entrusted to create a Japandi themed design along with some must-haves set by the homeowners. The Japandi theme is fusing the perfect blend of both the Scandinavian and Japanese styles. In this fusion of styles, we blended firstly the Scandinavian concept of coziness in design where the home would provide the feeling of sanctuary and comfort every time the home owner walks in the main door. Then, integrating this concept with the Japanese notion of “wabi-sabi” which means finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection in nature, thus creating the birth of the Japandi theme. We focused mainly on minimalistic designs that are aesthetically pleasing yet highly functional. You will also see a more calming and peaceful palette to compliment Japandi furniture and accessories. Homeowners Ming and Tiffany liked influences from a mix of the minimalist aesthetic from Japan and the wood themed Scandinavian look - and so decided to combine the two. The home has parts inspired from Japanese architect, Tadao Ando, with a long seamless corridor. The living room is spacious and the first thing you'd notice is the black framed windows that provides a lovely picturesque view of the sea. At a size of 1,313 square feet, it's a good size (especially for HDB's nowadays), and you can see that from the open kitchen as well as cosy touches like the raised platform next to the dining area.
